An official of Norway Soccer has harshly criticized the Federation of International Football Association and this year’s World Cup host Qatar in front of the executive committee on the eve of the World Cup draw.
Lise Klaveness, the newly elected leader of soccer in Norway, has criticized Qatar’s ability to protect the human rights of the migrant workers who have actively built the infrastructure and project for the grand event and, at the same time, Qatar’s criminalization of homosexuality. Also, she is one of the few women who have led a FIFA member federation.
According to her, there are not enough safety measures for LGBTQ+ people and the workers who have tirelessly built the infrastructure for the event. Nobody in the host country can legitimately guarantee the safety of homosexuals.
Hassan Al-Thawadi, who is the head of the executive committee and also the one who bid for hosting the tournament twelve years ago, had replied by saying that people should properly research and study before passing any comment. Both Qatar and FIFA have said that bringing the tournament to the country has made drastic positive changes in Qatar’s law and society.
