Alia Bhatt starrer Meghna Gulzar’s Raazi, the highest-grossing solo release of the actress, had recorded in a lifetime run Rs 123.84 crores. However, the manner in which Gangubai Kathiawadi is performing at the Box Office currently after its perfectly timed Women’s Day release, the film is set to surpass Raazi and become Bhatt’s biggest ever.
Presently standing at Rs 105.64 crores*, the film is doing massively with a tremendous per day average and going by its first day opening of Rs 10.50 crores, it is rewarding to see the figure go past the Rs. 100 crores mark in only 15 days.
For the director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, this is his fourth consecutive century after Deepika Padukone starrer Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat. After the cinemas had remained shut for nearly two years due to COVID-19, Gangubai Kathiawadi seems to be doing pretty much the giant job of opening up the theatres to a huge audience.
As for its counterpart, Jhund, the Amitabh Bachchan starrer, is reportedly doing well primarily in Maharashtra, where the film is set. Opening at Rs. 1.50 crores, Jhund has registered Rs 11.30 crores for now, and it needs to be seen whether it is able to touch down the Rs. 20 crores mark in the coming two weeks.
