Last day to link PAN with Aadhaar Card: Follow Step-by-Step guide to do so

According to section 139AA of Income Tax Act 1961, the government of India has mandated for all citizens to link their permanent account number (PAN) with their Aadhaar cards.

The Centre has previously informed that the deadline for linking PAN with Aadhaar is March 31, and failing to do so will make the PAN card inoperative from March 31, 2023.

The government has likewise, also issued an additional grace period so that users can link their PAN number to Aadhaar number even after the last date. As per CBDT, users will have to pay a late fee of Rs 500 if they link their PAN with Aadhaar in the upcoming three months, otherwise the late fee will increase to Rs 1000 if the same is done after grace period of three months.

So, in case you don’t remember whether you linked your PAN with Aadhaar, here is a step-by-step guide to do it right now (please use a PC, desktop or a laptop for doing so instead of a smartphone):

  1. Keep your PAN and Aadhaar card close for entering required details

  2.   Open e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department

  3.  Now, click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ option from the top-left side of the page

  4. Now, you will be redirected to a web page form

  5. Here in the form, enter your PAN number, Aadhaar card details, name, etc.

  6. Once you are done filling the form, you will need to make a few choices like if you have birth year mentioned on Aadhaar then check the respective box

  7. After making the choices relevant to information entered, check the box that says ‘I agree to validate my Aadhaar details with UIDAI’

  8. Now, enter the CAPTCHA code displayed on the screen

  9. Click on ‘Link Aadhaar’ and submit the request
